Warbirds Over Delaware

Postby xtraflyr on Sat Jun 21, 2008 12:37 pm

Hey guys,
The famous Warbrids over Delaware is July 11-13th. I got the ok from the wife to go Saturday. Were not sure if the family is going and we will camp out about a mile away,or I may just go for the day, its only 2hrs away.Figure if I go myself Ill leave my place like 6am or so.Then stay for the pilots dinner, then head home. If it's just me goin, then Im up for some company. Let me know.
If you register as a pilot its 25 bucks. It includes entrance into the state park, the dinner,BBQ,prize drawing, parking closer and to be a pilot.
Maybe youll even get to see the great Bill Voag do his outstanding landing!!

Since I recovered from being dehydrated from the show Ill let you know how it went.

Pete came and got me at 6am. Wew proceded to follow the GPS.Well it was'nt the right move. We ended up goin through Philly.. It was scary for sure..

We finally got there set up and proceded to check out the place. We saw the regular,Mustangs,Zero's,ect. We then walked past a few big beautifull twin engine planes. Im pretty sure their wingspans were easily 12'! Little bit further we ran into get this,a 50%Clipped Wing Cub!
After that we ran into the Famous B29 that dropped the X1 Jet. The Jet would drop off glide down to eye level, then hit the rockets and shot it way up there. The B29 did his show with some low smoke on inverted passes. Next was an attempt on a Hover. He I guess did it,hung it there for a few seconds. He did a nice upright spin, followed by a short,VERY short landing with the wingtip just missing the ground..
The 50% Cub was just as impressive. Loops,4 point rolls, slow rolls, beautifull hammer Heads. The Cub can be had for about 3k just for the plane which is an ARF.They also offer the regular Cub also. I believe it was 18'wingspan.
This is also the first time I saw a Turbine Powered Jet,the BVM Ultra Bandit. He was doing 199mph low passes.Going verticle was insane it was Unlimited!! He only uses full throttle when going verticle. The rest of the time was less then 1/2 throttle.. It could easily do 300MPH. I WANT ONE!!!
The electric version of that jet was equally awesome. Wasnt as big as the other Turbine jet,but seemed just as fast..
I told Pete,"If its that cool,you know it's expensive"!

Then we saw a AT6 Texan hit the dirt.Well we didnt actually see it hit cuz it crashed in the woods, about 200' from Pete's truck!
Thats my wrap up. Im hoping Bill and Pete get some pictures out to you guys..
Cya,
Frank
